Dorothy is the first person I saw in this world. She was the midwife at my birth. I grew up calling her Aunt Dorothy and didn’t realize until I was about 10 years old that we were not blood relatives. As a teen she gave me my first summer job counting tablets and filling medicine bottles in her clinic. She took the edge off the work ethic lesson by actually letting me listen to a patient’s heart once.
